Believe it or not, developing a name for this magazine was perhaps the hardest part in the process of its creation, although deciding on this beautiful font you’re reading was almost as difficult. Just take a moment to appreciate the smooth serifs showing just the right amount of dignity without an antiquated look—Sorry, I diverge. We spent many meetings and exchanged countless emails pondering the pros and cons of potential names ranging from playful to conventional to just plain ridiculous. In the end we agreed on Closing Remarks.
At first, I was concerned that people would think we were trying to claim a definitive position or the final word on the topics we present. That is in no way our desire. Our goal is to open the floor for conversation and ongoing exploration of the Christian faith. I encourage you to submit something for a future issue, be it art, poetry, photos, fiction, apologetics, or a response to something you’ve read here.
In order to fully embrace the title—which by the way I do now—I had to consider its source. Closing Remarks refers to the personal conclusion of Paul’s letters to the Corinthians. He advises the Church at Corinth to heal divisions and confront immorality within the body. He also outlines principles and ethics of the Christian doctrine. His final thoughts though, are a caring message of love and encouragement: “Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” Paul challenges the church to examine their actions and values that they may more fully experience the wonder of God. So I leave you with a similar message: be an active participant in your life, seek perfection, and love one another.
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
